Marion Aitken
Marion was born in Zimbabwe to a New Zealand father and Canadian mother but grew up in Stratford, Ontario. Since childhood, she has thrived creating beautiful things, so naturally studied art in school. In 2008, she made Ottawa her home and now she works as an artist and freelance graphic designer.
A graduate of London Ontario’s Bealart Vocational Art Program (majoring in Commercial Art and Photography) and Sheridan College’s Technical Illustration Program, her artistic passion is to compose accurate, striking images full of vivid colour and/or tone, rich in detail, reflecting the fascinating patterns and designs found both in the natural and urban worlds. she paints realistically and prefers to use her own photographs as reference material where possible. These photographs capture inspiring subjects from her travels. She has thoroughly enjoyed her adventures throughout North, Central and South America, Britain and New Zealand over the past several years and, at each opportunity, has had the joy and benefit of exposure to different cultures and customs that inform both her artistic expression as well as her own world view.
Time spent in solitude and nature fuels and renews her. Hiking or biking through a forest are favoured activities that bring her joy and furnishes her with fresh ideas.
She delights in her artistic pursuits and shares her paintings with others at various exhibitions in the Ottawa area during the summer and fall; all the while spending her winters producing fresh work and completing commissions.
